Everyday Magic

I paint in oils because I love the richness of color and the way oil paint mixes and moves on the canvas. I like its mutability and freshness.

My paintings are about beauty and magic in everyday life. I love the way shadows fall and reflections sparkle and how light glances across a scene. I love living in the Northwest and seek to express the richness of Northwest light and color. I paint buildings and interiors, places where people live and congregate. I like the sense of time and place expressed by historical places. The colors in my paintings are often muted, the edges soft giving them a dreamy quality. I enjoy painting outdoors where the light is always changing.

I have been a photographer most of my life and have developed an eye for composition, light and color. I look at the world around me with fresh eyes. Though I use my photographs for reference, my paintings are not about photographic realism. Instead they are expressions of my sense of the beauty and magic in everyday life.
